Glucose evokes rapid Ca2+ and cyclic AMP signals by activating the cell-surface glucose-sensing receptor in pancreatic β -cells.

About

It has been thought that glucose exerts its effect solely by the mechanism dependent on glucose metabolism.  Using sensitive methods to monitor various intracellular messengers, we now show that glucose evokes rapid Ca2+ and cAMP signals by activating cell-surface glucose-sensing receptor.  The results provide new information as the action of glucose in pancreatic β-cells.
