A research group led by Assistant Professor Yuto Yoshinari and Professor Takashi Nishimura of the Laboratory of Metabolic Regulation and Genetics has shown, using the model organism Drosophila melanogaster, that a new hormone-like peptide, CG14075/Marmite (Mmt), promotes amino acid metabolism and supports adaptation to nutrient deprivation during starvation.
This finding provides important insight into how organisms selectively use multiple energy sources under nutrient-limited conditions. It also reveals a new mechanism linking hormone secretion, amino acid metabolism and oxidative stress defense, and is expected to advance our understanding of nutritional metabolism and endocrine regulation.
