 The Institute for Molecular and Cellular Regulation (IMCR), Gunma University, Japan, is seeking a researcher in the field of endocrinology and metabolism as a full professor for a term of five academic years.

Overview
IMCR is the only center of basic research in the fields of endocrinology and metabolism in Japan, and is approved by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT). In response to social demand, IMCR aims to perform high-quality basic medical research on lifestyle-associated diseases, including metabolic syndrome. IMCR is also involved in many collaborative research projects undertaken upon request from the scientific community. IMCR is seeking one researcher to be employed as a full professor, who has outstanding achievements in basic medical research, in the fields of endocrinology, metabolism, and associated areas using not only mammalian models but also various other model organisms. In particular, we are looking for a scientist who can use cutting-edge technologies to perform research on the metabolic regulation mechanism of nutrition obtained by food intake, and the mechanisms of onset of various diseases caused by its disturbance, as Professor of the Laboratory of Integrated Cell Metabolism. After taking up the appointment, the candidate may rename his/her laboratory.

The appointee will be affiliated with IMCR, Gunma University, Japan.

 3.Qualifications
・Applicants are required to hold a PhD and/or MD degree.
・Applicants should have an outstanding record of achievements in research in the field of endocrinology or metabolism.
・Applicants should be thoroughly proficient in Japanese.

4.Term of Employment
The successful applicant will be employed for five years. The performance of the appointee will be assessed at the end of his/her term by the IMCR Promotion Committee. An appointee who successfully fulfills the evaluation process will then be appointed as a tenured professor of Gunma University.

March 1, 2021

6.Fields of Research
Gunma University seeks applications for one professorship in the following fields of research:

Basic medical sciences, including endocrinology, metabolism, and associated areas. In particular, research on the metabolic regulation mechanism of nutrition obtained by food intake, and the mechanisms of onset of various diseases caused by its disturbance. We encourage researchers using not only mammalian models but also various other model organisms to apply.

 7.Duties
(1)Perform basic medical research in the fields described in category 6 above.
(2)Contribute to domestic and international collaborative research.
(3)Publish research findings and present findings at domestic and international conferences.
(4)Apply for and obtain research grants from external sources.
(5)Participate in educational activities carried out at the undergraduate and graduate schools of Gunma University.
(6)Perform other miscellaneous tasks as required by the University.

8.Working Conditions
(1)The appointee will be posted at Gunma University Showa Campus.
(2)The appointee is subject to the employment regulations of Gunma University.
(3)University regulations apply to inventions and discoveries made while employed in the position offered. Intellectual property rights belong to the University.

9.Salary
The appointee’s salary (annual salary system) will be determined in accordance with the salary regulations of Gunma University.

11.Deadline
Application documents must reach Gunma University by October 23, 2020.

12.Selection of Candidates
(1)Candidates will be selected through careful examination of the application documents.
(2)Candidates will be called in for an interview and asked to give a presentation. Candidates who pass the first screening will be contacted at a later date.
(3)Candidates will be informed of the final decision by post in late December 2020.
