The Institute for Molecular and Cellular Regulation (IMCR), Gunma University is seeking a researcher in the field of endocrinology and metabolism to occupy one Associate Professorship for a term of five academic years.

Overview
Approved by Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), IMCR is the only basic research center in the field of endocrinology and metabolism in Japan. Responding to social demand, IMCR aims for high-quality basic medical research on life-style maladies such as metabolic syndrome. We are seeking a researcher in epigenetics field who can be able to develop new mammalian reproductive techniques using genome editing as a member of Laboratory of Genome Science in Biosignal Genome Resource Center. After taking up an appointment, the associate professor is expected to engage in management of Biosignal Genome Resource Center.

3.Qualifications
・Applicants are required to hold a PhD and/or MD degree.
・Applicants should be an epigenetics researcher and have an outstanding record of achievements in research of mammalian reproductive technologies using genome editing.Applicants are expected to engage in management of Biosignal Genome Resource Center.
・Applicants should be thoroughly proficient in Japanese.

4.Term of Employment  
The successful applicant will be employed for five years. The performance of the appointee will be assessed at the end of his/her term by the IMCR Promotion Committee. The appointee who successfully fulfills the evaluation process will then be appointed as a tenured Associate professor at Gunma University.

5.Beginning of Employment 
Employment will begin on February 1st, 2018

We are seeking a researcher who studies in particular next-generation biology using model organisms such as the mouse, the worm, the fly, yeast, etc. (hereafter, model organism biology systems). Approved by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), Gunma University’s IMCR is Japan’s only basic research center in the field of endocrinology and metabolism. IMCR aims for high quality in basic medical research in this field and is also involved in many collaborative projects with researchers both in Japan and overseas. As a step toward developing closer relationships with overseas institutes in order to develop research in a global context, we seek one foreign assistant professor, who can help us to pursue this mission.

Institute for Molecular and Cellular Regulation, Gunma University is seeking a qualified researcher in the field of endocrinology and metabolism to occupy one (1) position of “Tenure Track (TT) Assistant Professor” from 2015 through 2019, i.e. for four academic years.

Overview

This program has been implemented to encourage and establish a tenure-track system that offers qualified young researchers a career path to carry out their work in an autonomous research environment. Young researchers who show outstanding achievement in their fields then become eligible for full-time tenured posts at Gunma University.

Start-up funds of \6,000,000 will be provided during the first year following appointment and \2,000,000 in the second year. The appointee will also be allocated office and laboratory space (approximately 40 m2). Please note that laboratory space and the amount of annually allocated research grants are subject to change depending on the university’s annual budget.

Appointees will have access to laboratories shared with the Institute for Molecular and Cellular Regulation and the Biosignal Genome Resource Center. These facilities will aid you in devising a research project plan (to be submitted after employment) and to develop research proposals to secure external funding.

Furthermore, appointees will be supported by our Mentor Advisory System, which is a team consisting of a mentor (veteran professor) and several advisors (professionals in the research field).

  Appointees are affiliated with the Institute for Molecular and Cellular Regulation, Gunma University.

3. Qualifications

 Applicants are required to hold a PhD and/or MD title.

 Applicants should have an outstanding record of achievement in the field of endocrinology or metabolism, as noted in category 6 below.

 ・Applicants should be thoroughly proficient in Japanese.

4. Term of Employment

  Successful applicants will be employed from December 1, 2015 to March 31, 2019. The performance of the appointee will be assessed by the Tenure Track Promotion Committee of the Institute for Molecular and Cellular Regulation. At the end of the four-year program, the reviewee who has successfully completed the tenure evaluation process will then be newly appointed as full-time tenured members of Gunma University from April 2019.

6. Fields of Research

  Gunma University is seeking applications in the following fields of research:

  Endocrinology and Metabolism (in particular, basic medical sciences)

7. Duties

 (1)Perform basic medical research on metabolic syndrome, especially in epigenetics, multiple organ association, and regenerative medicine.

(2)Contribute to international collaborative study.

(3)Publish research findings and present findings at domestic and international conferences.

(4)Apply for and obtain external research grants.

(5)Participate in educational activities carried out in the Gunma University undergraduate or graduate schools.

(6)Perform other miscellaneous tasks as required by the University.

8. Working Conditions

(1)Appointees will be located on the Gunma University Showa Campus.

(2)Appointees are subject to Gunma University employment regulations.

(3)University regulations apply to inventions and/or discoveries produced while on the job. Subsequent intellectual property rights belong to the University.

9. Salary

  TT Assistant Professor’s income is determined according to Gunma University Salary regulations (annual salary system)

10. Research Funds and University Support

(1)Start-up funds of \6,000,000 for the first year and \2,000,000 for the second year will be allocated to a TT Assistant Professor. The amount of the allocation may be subject to change depending on the university’s annual budget. Floor space of about 40 m2 (including office space and laboratory space) is provided.

(2)Support is available to TT Assistant Professor via the Mentor Advisory System.

12. Deadlines

13. Selection of Candidate

(1)Selection will be determined through examination of application documents.

(2)Applicants may be called in for an interview and/or asked to make a presentation. Applicants will be informed about details at a later date.

(3)Applicants will be informed of the final decision by post in late October 2015.
